Painted for an ImagineFX forum challenge. Done in Painter IX with Wacom tablet, probably took a good 24-30 hours to complete. Managed to add some new custom brushes to my arsenal for this, a square oil pastel, a grass brush, and a nice new textured blender. Also had a play with a detailing Airbrush to do the vines and face. The light rays were just a couple of overlay layers with solid white bars, blurred and erased out in places with a soft eraser.

Now that creature combination is real menacing! I wouldn't want to meet that thing. Great creativity. It stands out to me that there was a lot of softbrushing used, especially on the trees. It gives it a nice appeal, but preferably, I would have liked to see a little more contrast with line. (Maybe it's just me *shrugs*)

Jesus was tired, but He gave some rest. He was hungry, but he fed 5000. He was tempted, but He sinned not. Stressed, but he persevered. Bruised, but he gave us healing. Mocked, but still he loved. He died, and was resurrected.

Thanks for the comment. I know what you mean, it does look quite soft overall. I think I was trying to focus my detail more on the head with harder edges. I did this a couple of years ago now, so I've been learning more about how and where to use soft and hard edges to help the composition. Would love to know what you think of some of my other pics too, if you have the time.

This is brilliant. I have Painter but never use it any more really. Wasn't good enough at it. It looks like you used Watercolor. DID you use watercolor for it at all?

Painter takes a while to get used to, just keep at it and experiment loads with it. This is all purely digital, even my origial sketch was done in Painter as far as I remember. The little traditional painting I did when I was younger was mostly all watercolour based, so I probably paint digitally in a similar way, I think.

I suck at painting. I only paint in Photoshop, & I guess that's called 'Airbrushing' cos it's not using paint tools like you would in Painter. Instead, I'm just using the preloaded brushes in Photoshop
