"Merv always goes to the beach at sunrise to play his banjo before the masses get there, otherwise they just phone the police because of the din!"
I worked on this in greyscale first to try and get the values right then coloured and painted over. You can check out the stages over on my blog [link]
Really appreciate the feedback Witch, it's always good when someone pays enough attention to give it rather than just 'I like this'. I know exactly what you mean about his eyes, I think I took a bit of a risk by not giving him any defined eyes, but I wanted to try and stick to my original idea to see if I could make it work. I imagined him with a sortt of John Lennon dark glasses type thing originally, but I didn't want to give him anything as normal as glasses, so I went with this. I did struggle to try and make them work and it ended up this way since I thought it gave him a bit of an alien feel. But your point is duly noted for future. And as far as the experience of your own work goes, it's better giving feedback about something you've experienced yourself, than something you don't know about Thanks again.

i think however, that what disturbs me most is actually
the face of the figure, its the vacant eyes and the shape of the chin and lips that bother me
i learned that the watcher eyes are always drawn to the face and a problem there can almost ruin an excellent work otherwise
it happened to me often enough with my own sculptures sadly
so i shouldn't be the one to critique
